Hurt………Dennis Ray "Turtle"  Rowland, age 73 of Hurt passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.  God saw how sick he was so he put his arms around him and said, "come with me."

Born December 1, 1950 in Altavista, he was a son of the late Jip Rowland and Pencie Mayhew Rowland.

He is survived by daughter, Bess R. Hines (Chris) of Altavista; one son, Jason Rowland (Kahlyn) of Gretna; Dennis had six grandchildren, Jada Rowland (fiancé, Justin David), Jolie Rowland, Evan Cox, Kaitlyn Cox, Logan Cox, and Carter Lanier-Case.  He is also survived by one brother, Jerry Rowland (special friend, Jean) of Altavista; and three sisters, Anne French (Rob) of Forest, Ellen Creasy of Gretna, and Mary Gunn (special friend, Emmett) of Lynch Station.  Dennis was especially fond of David Cox, his former son-in-law.

Dennis was a strong believer in love and forgiveness for everyone.  His heart was full of kindness and he knew that Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior.  Dennis was a natural born mechanic and spent many hours helping his children fix everything around their homes.  He worked at Ross-Abbott for years as a mechanic.  He was a "special handyman" to all who knew him.  Dennis also loved his dogs and often took them riding in his car.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Summersett Baptist Church, 3773 Bibee Road, Pittsville by Rev. Jason Andrews.  Burial will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff at Lynchburg General Hospital for their love, kindness, and care shown to Dennis.
