Gretna…….Mark Dennis Almond, age 65 of Gretna died Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at his residence.

Born August 6, 1953 in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Thomas Walker Almond and Clarice Adams Almond. He loved God and was a member of Marion Baptist Church.  Mr. Almond was a machine operator with Norfolk-Southern and loved playing Santa Clause both locally and at Harkers Island, NC. He enjoyed cooking for his family, woodworking, gardening, traveling, and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Jefferson Almond of the residence; one son, Matt Almond and wife, Heather of Altavista; three daughters, Mandy King and husband, Kevin of Gretna, Brandy Cole and husband, Bill of Gretna, and Starla Taylor and husband, Jake of Gretna; one brother, Leonard Almond and wife, Pattie of Altavista; three sisters, Carol Lambert and husband, Wayne of Hurt, Sandy Krantz and friend Paul Jasiewicz of Gretna, and Shelby Mitchell of Altavista; ten grandchildren, Trey Cole and fiancée, Elizabeth Dawson, Blake Cole, Darion King, Tyler Almond, Bethany King, Joshua Cole, Claire Almond, Vivian Taylor, Kaylen Taylor and Ivan Taylor; and one great-grandchild, Oliver R. Cole.

Memorial services will be conducted 4:00 P.M. Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Marion Baptist Church by Dr. Henry M. Meadows, Jr.
