Emporia..........Dempsey Ray Hardaway, age 82 of Emporia died Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond.
Born July 29, 1928 in Pittsylvania County he was the son of the late Austin Wilson Hardaway, and Hallie Keesee Hardaway. He was predeceased by a sister, Virginia H. Adkins, and his former wife, Alma Talbot Hardaway. Mr. Hardaway was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church, and was a past master of Widows Son Masonic Lodge #150 A.F. & A.M. for over fifty years. He retired from Mecklenburg Coop with 48 years service, serving 42 years in the Emporia District. Dempsey loved golf, checkers, quail hunting, and fishing.
He is survived by a son, Donnie Hardaway and his wife, Joan of Tampa Bay, FL; a daughter, Linda Hobbs and her husband, Tommy of Aylett;two grandchildren, Susan Hobbs, and Brian Hobbs; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Darrell Hardaway of Bethany, LA, and Austin W. Hardaway, Jr. of Cross City, FL.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2010 at Greenfield Baptist Church by Rev. R.G. Rowland. Burial will follow in Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2010 at Greenfield Baptist Church.
