Delsia Crews Gray

Sandy Level…….Delsia Crews Gray, 66, of Sandy Level, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, February 10, 2011, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Delsia was born on November 20, 1944, in Pittsylvania County. She was a daughter of the late Roy Millard Crews and Sarah Fielder Crews. Her childhood was simple and rich with the love of her many siblings and hardworking farming parents.
Delsia married Donald Wayne Gray on October 5, 1961. They celebrated forty-eight years of marriage. She enjoyed being a housewife and loving mother to her three redheads. She maintained a healthy home and family life in Dinwiddie County and later in Cary, N.C. where Donald worked for Allied Chemical until he retired. The family then returned to Sandy Level, where Delsia became an active member of the Round Pond Baptist Church. She was for many years a member of the board, director of the vacation bible school, WMU missions, and Sunday school teacher of the adult class. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed landscaping the church grounds. While Donald operated his business, Five-D TV Repair, she enjoyed working in Chatham for Bassett-Walker, and later at BGF Industries in Altavista. She also loved spending time with her granddaughter.
Delsia is survived by her three children, Donna G. Robertson, and husband, Michael; Donald W. Gray, Jr., and fiancée, Kimberly Sams; and Denita G. Knight. She is also survived by a cherished granddaughter, Mary-Michael Robertson. Surviving siblings are: Buddy Crews, and wife, Carlene; Marie C. Gray, and husband, Bill; Clyde Crews, and wife, Shelby; Nelsia Chism; Milton Crews; Howard Crews, and wife, Sherri; Glenda Ramsey, and husband, Wallace; Betty Bond, and husband, Mike; and Terry Custer. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Delsia was preceded in death by her husband, Donald W. Gray, Sr. She was also predeceased by her parents, Roy and Sarah Crews, and her brother, Havert Crews.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home in Gretna, on Monday, February 14, from 2:00-3:30 pm, followed by a graveside funeral service at Round Pond Baptist Church in Sandy Level. The service will be conducted at 4:00 pm by Reverend A. A. Blanks, with a sunset burial. Music will be provided by Delsia's cousin Barbara Towler. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 13 and following the service on Monday, February 14 at Delsia and Don's home in Sandy Level. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to "Friends of Lynchburg Hematology-Oncology" (a non profit patient assistance fund). Donations can be sent to the attention of Shirley Morris 1701 Thompson Drive, Lynchburg.
Delsia's loving grace will live on in the hearts of her three children and grandchild. Her siblings wish to honor her memory with this thought: "Sister, you have been so wonderful to us all in every way. We will love and remember you forever and always."
