Delma Rowland Hershman

Gretna…….Delma Rowland Hershman, age 94 of Gretna died Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Centra Gretna Medical Center.
Born May 3, 1921 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late John (Tack) Carrington Rowland and Lottie Shelton Rowland. She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Wilson Hershman; a son, Ray Wilson Hershman; five brothers, Perry Rowland, John Rowland, Jr., Willard Rowland, Lee Rowland and Frank Rowland; and two sisters, Thenie Smith and Elvin Midkiff. Mrs. Hershman was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church and was a home maker. She was the family genealogist; and enjoyed talking on the phone and watching soap operas on TV. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, flowers and writing letters.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Lee Hershman and wife, May of Gretna and Leonard John Hershman of Gretna; a daughter-in-law, Betty Hershman of Gretna; one sister, Agnes Johnson and husband, Bob of Forest; three grandchildren, Angela Hershman, Deedee Shelton and husband, Kyle and Lindsey Hershman; one step-grandchild, Holly Gardner; and five great-grandchildren, Savanna Crews and husband, Blake, Nathan Shelton, Amanda Shelton, Lucas Meadows and Gabrial Gardner.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2016 at Greenfield Baptist Church by Rev. R.G. Rowland. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2016 at Greenfield Baptist Church and other times will be at the residence.
