Gretna……….David Thomas (Dobber) Worley, Sr., age 82 of 901 North Main Street Gretna and formerly of 12941 Rockford School Road, Gretna died Friday, July 29, 2011 at his residence.
Born November 8, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late, Sam Henry Worley and Sarah Elizabeth Hammock Worley. He was predeceased by his wife, Nera Irby Worley; two brothers, Sam Worley and Jim Worley; 9 half brothers and sisters and a granddaughter, Lisa Marie Worley. Mr. Worley was a retired employee of Klopman, a former professional painter, and a US Navy veteran. He was an excellent hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed working word puzzles.
A loving Father, Grandpa and great-grandpa, he is survived by one son, David T. Worley, Jr. and wife, Beverly of Harrisburg, NC; two daughters, Linda Bane of Charlotte, NC, and Bonnie Cox and husband, Thomas of Gretna; five brothers, Wilford Worley of Gretna, Oscar Lee Worley and wife, Sharon of Gretna, Charlie Worley and wife, Sandy of Alexandria, Clay Worley and wife, Nancy of Forest, and F. Douglas Worley of Concord, NC; one sister, Gladys Light of Roanoke; eight grandchildren, Michelle Barnes, Donna Jones, Megan O'Gorman, David O'Gorman, Kelly Smith, Myrtle Roach, Emily Cox and Jessica Sander; six great-grandchildren, Taylor Barnes, Lily Mae Parsons, Madison Smith, Payten Roach, Issabella O'Gorman and Gauge O'Gorman; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 1, 2011 at the Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Brady Willis and Rev. Bobby Brumfield. Burial with military honors by the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard will follow in the Worley Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times will be at the residence of his daughter, Bonnie Cox 1137 Gallows Road, Gretna, VA
