Obituary

Hurt……. Dallas Arnold Moore, age 83 of Hurt died Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born May 10, 1934 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late John William Moore and Gracie Mae Gross Moore. Mr. Moore was predeceased by his wife, Edith Willard Moore; one brother, Aubrey Moore; and four sisters, Jane Bragg, Kittye Roberts, Merelyn Goodson and an infant sister, Brenda Sue Moore. Mr. Moore was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War and was a former police officer for the Henrico County Police Department. He was also a former member of the Altavista Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Moore was awarded the Medal of Valor from the County of Henrico which is the highest form of recognition awarded for excellence in police duty in a lifesaving activity requiring an act of personal bravery. He attended Motley United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening and cooking. He was a member of the Glen Allen Masonic Lodge No. 131 A.F & A.M., and a member of the Altavista Lodge No. 1433 Loyal Order of Moose. He was also a member of the Henrico Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #4 and a member of the Henrico County Police Department Retirees.
He is survived by one son, Dennis A. Moore and wife, Sara of Vienna; one daughter, Lynn Sawyer and husband, Ray of Virginia Beach; one granddaughter, Megan Watkins and husband, Arthur of Virginia Beach; three brothers, Bill Moore and wife, Polly of Alexandria, Johnny Moore and wife, Beverly of Coventry, RI and Frank Moore and wife, Peggy of Mechanicsville; three sisters, Anne Valley and husband, Cliff of Dunnellon, FL, Helen Cocke and husband, Marshall of Lynchburg and Pat Brauer and husband, John of Kilmarnock; and his dear friend, Martha Doss of Hurt.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Motley United Methodist Church by Rev. Steve Morris and Rev. David Bayse. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in Altavista Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2018 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
