Gretna………Curtis Randolph Martin, age 91 of Gretna, died Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Sovah Health Danville Memorial Hospital.

Born September 3, 1932 in Danville, he was the son of the late James Wesley Martin and Frankie Jones Martin.  He was predeceased by his wife, Sue Hendricks Martin; a sister, Ruth Taylor; and an infant sister Dora Martin; a grandson, James Kirby; a great-grandson, Layton Grafton; and a son-in-law, Bobby Rutherford.  Mr. Martin was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean War.  He was a member of Banister Springs Primitive Baptist Church and he retired from BWXT.  Family was the most important thing in his life.  Mr. Martin was a honeybee whisperer; and he loved nature, quail hunting, playing Blue Grass music, bluebird houses and gardening.

He is survived by five daughters, Cynthia Rutherford of Danville, Deborah Williams and husband, Sam of Bedford, Donna Dalton and husband, Tony of Ringgold, Annette Kirby of Altavista and Laura Saunders and husband, Anthony of Gretna; three sisters, Dolores Simpson of Gretna, Charlotte Hastings and husband, Jerry of Chatham and Melba Dalton of Gretna; a special nephew, Troy Simpson and his wife, Sandy of Chatham; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2024 at Banister Springs Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Troy Simpson.  Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Anthony Saunders, 4825 Deerview Road, Gretna.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
