Hurt………Corrine Hendricks Oakes, age 84 of Hurt died Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born March 20, 1930 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late John Henry Hendricks and Mary Dove Hendricks. She was predeceased by five sisters and six brothers. Mrs. Oakes was a member of Spring Road Baptist Church and was a home maker. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, crafts, looking after her family and playing Rook with Joshua.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Andrew Jackson Oakes, Sr. of the residence; two sons, Clarence Oakes and his wife, Betty of Hurt and Junior Oakes and his wife, Jacque of Hurt; two daughters, Joyce Oakes of Hurt and Betty Sue Oakes of Hurt; two sisters, Sue Martin and her husband, Curtis, and Barbara Hendricks; two grandchildren, Edward Oakes and Andy Oakes and his wife, Susan; one great-grandchild, Joshua Oakes; and one step-grandchild, Colton Nelson.
Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Oakes Family Cemetery by Edward Neal and Ronnie Simpson.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, Clarence and Betty Oakes, 1840 Spring Road, Hurt.
