Cori Scott Snyder

Gretna..........Rosemary Corinne "Cori" Snyder, beloved wife of Rev. John B. Snyder of 301 South Franklin Blvd., Gretna , died unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, October 30, 2010 . Cori was a native of West Virginia , born January 13, 1972 to Betty Stuart Haley Scott and James M. Scott Jr. in Madison , WV . She was educated in the Beckley , WV public schools and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1990. She furthered her education at Marshall University in Huntington , WV obtaining a BA in Psychology in 1995 and a Master's Degree in School Psychology, as well as an Educational Specialist Degree in Psychology. She had recently obtained her certification as a Brain Trauma Specialist.
Cori included Danville in her job search area because she loved coming here as a child to visit her mother's relatives. She was blessed to find a job as a School Psychologist with Pittsylvania County Schools in January 1998. On August 11, 2001 her blessings would increase ten-fold by marrying her adoring husband, Rev. John B. Snyder. Together they would minister to her husband's congregations. She accepted the role of being a preacher's wife with grace and humility. At the present time, she was a member of Anderson Memorial United Methodist Church in Gretna .
It was in her every day life that she truly excelled. She was a champion for children. She had a special place in her heart for children with special needs, challenges, and unfortunate circumstances. She would go to the mat for a child or a cause she believed in. Her love for children was never more evident than in the smiles and laughter of her own treasured children, Haley, Bennett, and James.
Along with her husband and children of Gretna , VA and her parents of Beckley , WV she is survived by her brother, James M. Scott III of Raleigh , NC and her grandmother Rosemary H. Haley of Danville , VA. She is also survived by her in-laws: Dr. Gary J. Snyder and Florayne C. Snyder of Fort Myers , FL , her sister-in-law and husband Krista and Jason Hazelwood of Ringgold , VA , and grandparents John and Dorothy Snyder of Largo , FL and Ruby Brown of Lee's Summit, MO.
Cori is also survived by numerous aunts and uncles. Amy Haley Atkins and Butch Atkins, Terri Haley Hall and Phil Hall, and Jeff and Sarah Haley, all of Danville, VA. Judy Haley Hooker and Tim Hooker of Clarksville, VA, Bill Haley of Chatham, VA, Joe and Leslie Haley of Midlothian, VA, Philip and Pat Haley of Winnetka, IL, Lynda Scott Munique of Princeton, WV, and Ruth Scott Knabb and John Knabb of Madison, WV. Also left to cherish her memory are 23 first cousins.
Cori was predeceased by her grandparents, William F. Haley Sr. of Danville , VA and Dr. and Mrs. James M. Scott Sr. (Corinne Touchberry) of Madison , WV and a beloved cousin, Lt. Col. William R. Watkins III of Goldsboro , NC .
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 4, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Gretna by Rev. Larry Davies. Burial will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
