Altavista……….Clyde William Shelton, age 91 of Altavista died Monday, February 13, 2017 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Born December 17, 1925 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Frank Jackson Shelton and Bessie English Shelton. After the passing of his mother he was raised by Frank and Maggie English Shelton. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Hammock Shelton; one brother, Curtis Shelton; and six sisters, Clella Swain, Ruby Carter, Thelma Simpson, Myrtle Hedrick, Ethel Pulliam, and Viola Simpson. Mr. Shelton attended Altavista Church of God of Prophecy, where he was active helping anyway he could, including, raising the church flag every Sunday, mowing the grass, and all the church fellowship ministries. He retired from Klopman Mills and was a U.S Army Veteran of WWII. Mr. Shelton enjoyed fishing, riding in the country, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandsons.
He is survived by one son, Ronnie W. Shelton and wife, Ann of Richmond; and two grandsons, Capt. John W. Shelton of Fort Campbell, KY and Lt. Frank D. Shelton of Fort Stewart, GA.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Altavista Church of God of Prophecy by Rev. Whit Mayton and Bishop Wayne Murphy. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2017 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
