Gretna…..Clyde Douglas Shelton, age 90 of 3324 Derby Road, Gretna died Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Gretna Health & Rehab.
Born November 9, 1921 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Frank B. Shelton and Nellie Rowland Shelton. He was predeceased by his wife, Laura Dalton Shelton, his son, C.D. Shelton, Jr. and a sister, Lena Simpson. Mr. Shelton was a retired employee of Piedmont Manufacturing and was a member of Christian Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, repairing things, and fishing.
He is survived by two daughters, Cecile Woolard and husband, Michael of Robersonville, NC, and Daphne Ashwell and husband, Wayne of Huddleston; one brother, Frank Ray Shelton and wife Hilda of Gretna; one sister, Rebecca Holland and husband, Bob of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Berkeley Shelton, Cassandra Conger and husband, Jim, Charlotte Woolard, Krista Ashwell, and Devin Ashwell; four great-grandchildren, Kayla Conger, Nicholas Conger, Andrew Conger, and Skylar Payne.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 23, 2011 at the Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Dennis Nichols. Burial with Military Honors by the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
