Gretna………Clyde Roosevelt Mayhew, age 89 of Gretna passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born January 28, 1936 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Morris Monroe Mayhew and Nellie Eanes Mayhew.  He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Jane Chappell Mayhew; a grandson, Jason Knowles; five brothers, Anderson Mayhew, Burton Mayhew, Alfred Mayhew, Reuben Mayhew and Carlton Mayhew; and four sisters, Janie Mayhew, Ida Worsham, Evelyne Worsham, and Lucy Davis.  Mr. Mayhew was a U.S. Army Veteran and he retired from Abbott Laboratories.  He enjoyed woodworking and playing blue grass music.

He is survived by six sons, Bruce Mayhew & wife, Zoe of Gretna, Tim Knowles and wife, Jackie of Gretna, Ken Knowles of Newport News, Ron Knowles of Newport News, Anthony Knowles of New Mexico and Chris Mayhew of New Mexico; two daughters, Cindy Mayhew of New Mexico, and Shari Mayhew of New Mexico; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be conducted from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2026 at the residence, 3421 Farmers Road, Gretna.
