Gretna.......Cloyd Sparks, Jr. age 63 of 208 Leftwich Street, Gretna, died Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at UVA Medical Center.
Born April 15, 1947 in Brookville, Indiana, he was a son of the late Cloyd Sparks, Sr. and Mabel Hellard Sparks. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church of Lynchburg, and retired from the U.S. Marines. Mr. Sparks did two tours in Vietnam, and following his retirement was the Assistant Commandant at Hargrave Military Academy. He was a member of American Legion Post 77 and VFW Post 2014 both in Brookville, IN. Mr. Sparks loved reading his Bible and caring for his family.
He is survived by his wife Deborah Hendrick Sparks of the residence; three step-daughters, Terri Mullins and her husband, Bobby, Jr. of Gretna, Stefanie Goodman and her husband, Lester of Gretna, and Kelly Knauer and her husband, Kevin of Gretna; two brothers, John Sparks of Adelanto, CA, and Earl Sparks and his wife, Pat of Seymour, IN; and a sister, Nay Pennington and her husband, Pete of Brookville, IN; seven step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 23, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Dr. Maurice T. McCarthy, Jr. and Pastor Terry C. St. John. Burial with Military Honors by the US Marines Honor Guard will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
