Gretna…..Walter Clay Haden, Sr., age 76 of Gretna passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at his residence.
Born April 25, 1939 in Danville, he was a son of the late Walter Parrish Haden and Mirla Cocke Haden. Clay attended N.C. State truck driving school and retired after 38 and a half years working for Yeatts Transfer, Burlington and Lane. He was an active member and trustee of Payneton United Methodist Church. His many activities and interests included motorcycling, boating, water skiing, flying model planes, being with friends and family and his dog "Lucky".
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Margaret Poole Haden of the residence; one daughter, Margaret Lynn Smith and husband, Troy of Lively; one son, Walter Clay Haden, Jr. and wife, Karina of Odenton, MD; two sisters, Rita Gibson and husband, James of Gretna and Nellie May of Summerville, TN; three grandchildren, Devin Smith, Hailey Smith and Sean Parrish Haden; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2015 at Payneton United Methodist Church by Pastor Steve Morris. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
