Claude Lee Dawson, 75, moved to Glory and saw the face of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, April 22, 2016.
Born Dec. 28, 1940, on a farm in Cody, VA, he was the third child of Letcher T. Dawson and Jessie White Dawson. He was a lifelong resident of Cody and loved his family, church, and community. He enjoyed bluegrass music, fried chicken legs, Chevrolet trucks, and going to "the store."
He was predeceased by his parents and older brother, Hampton O. Dawson, Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn Brooks Dawson, whom he married on Dec. 23, 1961; his daughter, Glenda, and husband, Mark Oakes, of Chester; his daughter, Brenda, and husband, Randy Foster, of Gretna; his sister, Evelyn Conner, and husband, Wayne, of Halifax; his sister-in-law, Vickie Dawson, of Lewistown, PA; his nieces, Barbara Bishop and husband, Larry, and Rhonda Lloyd and husband, Arney, all of South Boston; Holly McLean and husband, Tim, of Presque Isle, ME; Charity and Natasha Dawson of Scotts Bluff, NE; his nephews, Hampton Dawson, Jr. and Stacey Dawson and wife, Norma, all of Presque Isle, ME; three great-nephews, and one great-niece.
Claude was a long-time member of Mulberry Baptist Church in Hermosa, where he served in various capacities, including deacon, trustee, assistant treasurer, usher, and as a member of many committees.
He was a lifelong, third-generation tobacco farmer. He was also a Gretna High School bus driver for 30 years.
He will be missed by all who knew, loved, and respected him.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
A funeral service will be conducted by Rev. David Hanks, Rev. Randy Foster, and Rev. Ava Mitchell at Mulberry Baptist Church on Sunday, April 24, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. A private burial will follow, where Claude will be laid to rest beside his beloved father.
Floral arrangements are welcome and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mulberry Building Fund, Straightstone Cemetery Fund, or Cody Church of God.
