Clara Stone Burch Tucker

Richmond.......Clara Stone Burch Tucker died December 10, 2010, one month prior to her 102nd birthday at the Masonic Home of Virginia in Richmond.
Born January 13, 1909 at Chalk Level in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Joel Lafayette and Mary Gilbert (Mamie) Thompson Burch. She was predeceased by her husband, Royal Stevens (Roy) Tucker, Sr., her six siblings and their spouses. Clara was Valedictorian of her 1926 graduating class at Gretna High School and attended one year at the State Teachers College at Farmville (now Longwood University). She taught one year at Greenfield Elementary School before being married. After the death of her husband in 1950, she and her son moved to Danville where she worked for Thalhimers (formerly L. Herman) retiring in 1976. She moved to Richmond in 1994 and to the Masonic Home in 1999.
Clara is survived by her son, Royal Stevens (Roy) Tucker, Jr,; granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth Tucker Gilbert and Anne-Stevens Carter Tucker Tierney; great-grandchildren, Megan Nicole Gilbert, Tucker Stevens Tierney, John Maher Tierney and Anne Tate Tierney; her former daughter-in-law, Elizabeth C. Vanderslice; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will begin at 2:00p.m. Monday , December 13, 2010 at Greenfield Baptist Church with Rev. R.G. Rowland officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will welcome friends one hour prior to the service Monday at 1:00p.m. tiL time of service at Greenfield Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial be made to the Masonic Home of Virginia, 4101 Nine Mile Road, Richmond, VA 23223.
