Gretna……….Clara Mills Alter, age 84 of Gretna, died Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.

Born May 21, 1939 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Carrington Mills, and Eula Rowland Mills.  She was predeceased by one brother, Guy C. Mills, Sr., and one sister, Doris Estes. She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.  She was a home maker; and enjoyed gardening, bowling, watching sports, and spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by one daughter, Cindy Allen and husband, Bill of Gretna; two brothers, George Mills of Madison Heights, and Don Mills and wife, Barbara of Bedford; one sister, Mavis Peregoy of Chesapeake; two grandchildren, Jeff Allen and wife, Brandy, and David Allen; and three great-grandchildren, Maci Allen, Silas Allen, and Cole Allen.

Memorial services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Pastor Matthew Speck and Morgan Allen.  Interment of ashes will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
