It is with heavy hearts that we announce our beloved Christopher Paul Mayhew ("PaPa") went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 14th, 2025.

Born on May 22, 1961, he was the son of the late Lanier Hale Mayhew and Lorene Bailess Mayhew. Chris was preceded in death by his loving wife and childhood sweetheart Penny Midkiff Mayhew, and his beloved youngest son, Zachary David Mayhew.

He enjoyed his family, especially his surviving sisters Cindy ("CinCin") and Dee, his countless friends, and his incredible Army comrades immensely. Chris also loved his cats he and Penny began looking after shortly before her passing. He also thrived in his backflow testing business, serving multiple municipalities across Virginia.

Chris was a proud Army veteran, having served in the active-duty National Guard with the 29th Infantry Division attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. Some of his fondest moments in service were with the men of the Air Assault Detachment at Fort A.P. Hill.

Chris is survived by his devoted son, Chad Mayhew and wife Samantha, and three grandchildren, Collin (16) and family, Charlotte (10) and Caroline (7); his adored sisters Diana M. Pierce ("Dee") and family, and Cynthia M. Beard ("Cindy"), Billy, and family; and countless additional loving family and friends.

Our sincere appreciation and overwhelming gratitude to everyone who reached out to Chris to support and encourage him along this journey; your love meant so much to him and means the world to the family.

The family will hold a private ceremony in his honor at a future date.
