Hurt……….Christine Woodson Rowland, age 97 of Hurt died Monday, July 1, 2019 at Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital.

Born November 1, 1921 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Jessie Ephriam Woodson and Nannie Bailess Woodson.  She was predeceased by her husband, Garland Rowland; three brothers, Leroy Woodson, Aubrey Woodson, and James Woodson; three sisters, Edna Shelton, Ola Price, and Louise Gardner; a son-in-law, Ronney Wyatt, and a great-granddaughter, Angel Dawn Wyatt.  Mrs. Rowland was a faithful member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where she served in many capacities including WMU President, church historian, Sunday School Teacher, choir member, and chairperson for the widow and widower banquet.  Mrs. Rowland was active in the Staunton River Baptist Association.  She was a seamstress and worked on the farm alongside her husband.  Mrs. Rowland enjoyed life, and enjoyed being with her friends and family.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Wyatt and special friend, Nathan Blanks of Gretna, and Joan Yontz of Fayetteville, NC; one sister, Margaret Moorefield of Myrtle Beach; four grandchildren, Stephanie Gray and husband, Rich, Jeff Yontz, Tim Wyatt and wife, Charlene, and Chris Wyatt and wife, Karen; six great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and special friends, Kay and Dale Elliott.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2019 at Piney Grove Baptist Church by Pastor Matthew Speck.  Burial will follow in Altavista Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2019 at Piney Grove Baptist Church and other times will be at the residence.

The family encourages friends to write down any memories or stories of Christine that they would like to share and drop them off at the church, funeral home, or the family's residence.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church, 2261 Piney Grove Road, Gretna, VA 24557.
