Hurt…….Charlie Ray Gregory, Sr., age 87 of Hurt died Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born November 18, 1936 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Daniel Witt Gregory, Sr. and Nolie Virginia Worley Gregory.  He was predeceased by two infant sons; two sons, Larry Gregory, Sr. and Wesley Gregory; five sisters, Virginia Gregory, Ruby Adkins, Leona Scott, Jenny Robertson and Sylvia Sydnor; and six brothers, Earl Gregory, D.W. Gregory, Jr., Nelvin Gregory, Jesse Gregory, George Gregory and Allen Gregory.  Mr. Gregory was a U.S. Army Veteran, a member of Summersett Baptist Church and he retired from the Lane Company.  He loved his family; and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Bertie Vaden Gregory of the residence; four sons, James Gregory of Hurt, Charlie Gregory, Jr. of Hurt, Mark Gregory, Sr. and wife, Kelli of Gretna and Darryl Gregory and wife, Nicole of Lynch Station; two daughters, Nolie "Jill" Conner and husband, Gregory of Union Hall and Joanna Young and husband, Kevin of Roanoke; one brother, Norman Cecil Gregory and wife, Susan of Roanoke; 22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Summersett Baptist Church by Rev. Jason Andrews and Pastor Ronnie Simpson.  Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
