Cecil Crenshaw Shelton, age 89 of Gretna passed away peacefully Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Commonwealth Senior Living at Stratford House memory care unit in Danville.

Born September 29, 1934 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Reuben "Big Boy" Shelton and Anis Perkins Shelton. He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Cecil Faye Motley Shelton on January 23, 2020.  He was also predeceased by two brothers, Charles Shelton, and Marshall Shelton; and six sisters, Eleanor Layne, Patty Hodges, Linda Shelton, Gyspy Shelton, Helen Andrews, and Phyllis Parker; two brothers in law, Archie Motley and Ray Motley; a sister in law Mary Motley; and by an infant grandson of Ray and Angela McKinney.

He was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church. Cecil was a retired lineman from Mecklenburg Electric Co-op.  He loved to fish and knew all the best farm ponds to fish from. He passed his love of fishing onto his two grandsons Cecil and Shelton who were most often always by his side. They were truly Pappy's boys and shared a very special bond with him. He also loved riding around the countryside and knew all the backroads, landmarks and farm ponds around Pittsylvania County. He also loved his chocolate lab Earnhardt that was always with him.

He is survived by five children, Angela McKinney and her husband, Ray of Danville, Derek Shelton and wife, Kathy of Hurt, Van Shelton and wife, Janet of Patriot, OH, Heidi Tucker and husband, Lynn of Richmond, and Jodi Butters and husband, Chad of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Wanda Shelton of Chatham, and Azile Delpierre of Roanoke; seven grandchildren, two-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Commonwealth Senior Living for all the love and care they have shown this past year to Pappy and would like to especially thank Commonwealth Hospice nurse, Laura Swift, and aide, Julie for all the love and care they have shown.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 27, 2023 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Larry Owen, Minister, and Keith Motley.  Burial will follow in Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 27, 2023 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Ray McKinney, 705 Reese Drive, Danville, Va.
