Gretna……….Cecil Fountain Cardwell, age 78 of Gretna died Monday, October 17, 2016 at his residence.
Born August 4, 1938 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Claude Cecil Cardwell and Rebecca Layne Cardwell. Mr. Cardwell was predeceased by his wife, Martha Vaughan Cardwell. He was a member of Hurt United Methodist Church and retired from Babcock & Wilcox. Mr. Cardwell enjoyed NASCAR, traveling, history and working in his garden.
He is survived by two daughters, Pam Johnson and husband, Steve of Charlottesville and Kelly Nuckols and husband, Chuck of Cary, NC; four grandchildren, Tyler Johnson, Allison Nuckols, Abby Nuckols and Hunter Johnson; a brother, John Cardwell of Gretna; and a friend, Dale Anthony of Danville.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the West End Church of Christ by Randy Parker, Minister. Burial will follow in Altavista Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
