Chatham……….Norman (Cotton) Carroll Payne, age 63 of 3381 Payneton Road, Chatham died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at his residence.
Born August 5, 1950 in Danville he was a son of Margaret Moore Payne of Chatham and the late Norman Walter Payne. Mr. Payne was a member of Sheva Church of Christ, an Army Veteran of Vietnam and retired from Dominion Power. He enjoyed riding his motorcycles, hiking, fishing, and music.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Sherry Butler Payne of the residence; one sister, Brenda Carter and her husband, Gary of Blairs; and 21 nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home. Following the visitation the family will receive friends at the Hampton Inn in Gretna. At other times friends will be received at the home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. Carroll requested no church service, but for his cremated remains to be deposited along the Blue Ridge Park Way.
