Gretna……Carroll Ray Matherly, age 56 of Gretna died Friday, June 11, 2021 at his residence.

Born March 30, 1965 in Lynchburg, he was a son of Lucy Shelton Matherly of Hurt and the late Guy Douglas "Jeff" Matherly.  He was predeceased by one half-brother, Benny Shelton.  Mr. Matherly was a member of Midway Baptist Church and he worked at Apple Market.  He loved Harley Davidson Motorcycles, the musician, Van Halen, and the pro wrestler, Jimmy Valiant.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Karen Bailey Matherly of the residence; two step-sons, Shaun Ayers and wife, Susanne, and Shane Ayers and wife, Joy; two brothers, Doug Matherly of Hurt, and Larry Matherly and fiancée, Peggy Dalton of Hurt; and three step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2021 at Midway Baptist Church by Rev. Lynn Marstin.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his mother, Lucy Shelton Matherly, 6713 Blue Ridge Drive, Hurt.
