Gretna……….Carroll Marlin "Buck" Chaney, age 71 of Gretna died Thursday, June 1, 2017 at his residence after a long hard battle with lung cancer and victory was won.
Born December 12, 1945 in Halifax County, he was a son of the late James Linwood Chaney, Sr. and Annie Farmer Chaney. He was predeceased by his sister, Patsy Tuggle and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Chaney was a member of Midway Baptist Church and was an employee of Haymes Brothers Inc. for forty-six years. Buck enjoyed grading a road, working on Ford antique cars, making diesel engines run, car races, football especially the Washington Redskins and listening to Loretta Lynn. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and teaching them to work.
He is survived by two sons, Carroll Chaney, Jr. and wife, Nancy, and Gary Tuggle and wife, Penny; five daughters, Tammy Fielder and husband, Brock of Gretna, Patsy Culbertson and husband, Ronnie of Hurt, Rebecca Neal and husband, J.D. of Gretna, Teresa Doss and husband, Justin of Lynchburg and Linda Hilldrup and husband, Jamie of Altavista; one brother, James L. Chaney, Jr. and wife, Connie of Gretna; three sisters, Cecile Farmer of Tappahannock, Olivia Smith and husband, Louis of Yorktown and Connie Lambert of Glen Allen; grandchildren Brock Fielder and wife, Jaime, Vince Fielder, Sarah Culbertson, Casey Culbertson, Molly Chaney, Carrie Chaney, Devin Chaney, Jace Chaney, Annie Chaney, Jay Neal, Cayden Doss, Dillin Perry, Hailey Perry, Jacob Hilldrup, Luke Hilldrup, Josh Tuggle and Leah Tuggle; one great-grandchild, Emma Fielder and a great-grandchild, Maddilynn Culbertson due in July.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Midway Baptist Church by Rev. Lynn Marstin. Burial will follow in Republican Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Brock Fielder 1609 North Main Street, Gretna.
