Gretna……..Carroll Andrews, age 89 of Gretna passed away Sunday, August 23, 2026 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born August 21, 1937 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Henry Lee Andrews, Sr. and Cassie Barley Andrews.  He was predeceased by a son, Steve Andrews; a grandson, Blake Andrews; three brothers, Bobby Lee Andrews, Oscar Lee Andrews and Henry Andrews, Jr.; and two sisters, Margaret Andrews and Carrie Barbour.

Mr. Andrews grew up in Zion United Methodist Church; in fact, he and LaVerne were the first couple to get married in the new church following reconstruction of the church after the original church burned down in 1955.  After moving to Gretna Carroll transferred his membership to Greenpond Baptist Church where he served as usher for many years as well as President of the Baptist Mens Group, on the finance committee, Deacon and choir member.

He was a U.S. National Guard veteran; having served for 10 years as an E-4 rank.  He was also a member of the Jaycees where he served as secretary and was awarded the Spark Plug Award in 1966 and 1967.

Mr. Andrews worked in factories for 20 years before deciding to get into truck driving.  After going to truck driving school he drove a truck for 21 years.  In some cases he drove long distances having drove in 36 states all over the United States.  Later in his trucking career he drove short distances closer to home.

He is survived by his wife, LaVerne Mayhew Andrews of the residence; two daughters, Angela Andrews of Ringgold and Margaret Andrews of Gretna; one son, Andrew "Andy" Andrews and wife, Christy of Mattaponi; five grandchildren, Aleshia, Taylor, Victoria, Hunter and Brendon; and two great-grandchildren, Rayleigh and Ashton.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at Greenpond Baptist Church by Rev. Charlie Ryan and Rev. R.G. Rowland.  Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at Greenpond Baptist Church and other times will be at the residence.
