San Antonio, TX……..Carolyn Annette Maltbie Rigney, age 67 of San Antonio Texas succumbed to cancer on August 14, 2014 surrounded by family and friends in the ICU at University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
Born September 9, 1946 in Albertville, Alabama she was a daughter of the late Robert Edward Lee Maltbie and Nellie Elizabeth Spears Maltbie. She was predeceased by two brothers, Michael David Maltbie and Phillip Edward Maltbie; and a son, Steven Owen, who only lived 28 days. Mrs. Rigney dedicated her life to helping others. She was a survivor and continued to pay it forward to others. Sober for 32 years, Carolyn was a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor who, after two heart attacks, was forced to retire from her Counselor position at the 38th Judicial District Community Corrections Facility in Uvalde, Texas in September, 2011. Carolyn continued her service through Rotary, and she lived the Rotary Four Way Test and built good will and better friendships throughout Rotary District 5840. She is a past President of the Rotary Club of Uvalde, Texas where she and her husband lived for over 18 years before moving back to San Antonio, where she was the President of the MedCenter Rotary Club of San Antonio at the time of her death. Mrs. Rigney also served as Assistant District Governor of District 5840 during 2012-14.
Twenty years and two months ago she met her great love Philip Rigney, who was by her side when she left this world; she is also survived by a daughter, Anna Marie Rigney-Philips and her husband, Thomas of Austin, Texas; a son, Christopher Michael Rigney, his wife Alexandria of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Robert Lyn Maltbie of Southside, Alabama; and three grandchildren, Connor and Amelia Phillips, and Christopher Michael Rigney, Jr.
A funeral service was held at Los Angeles Heights Presbyterian Church on Sunday, August 17, 2014. Graveside services will be conducted 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 22, 2014 at Liberty Memorial Cemetery by Rev. Jeffrey Wright.
