Chatham……….Carol Crowder Byrd, age 77 of Chatham passed away Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Sovah Health Danville Memorial Hospital.

Born August 30, 1948 in Patrick County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Hasful Clyde Crowder and Georgia Collins Crowder.  She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Stephen Wayne Byrd.  Mrs. Byrd was a member of Java Church of God of Prophecy and worked in daycare.  She loved her church community; and she loved her daycare kids and thought of them as her own.

She is survived by one son, Jamieson Todd Byrd and Gwen Estep of Danville; one daughter, Lori Elizabeth Hale and husband, David of Fishersville; a sister, Joan Merricks of Danville; a brother-in-law, Barry Merricks of Danville; four grandchildren, Elijah Jamieson Byrd, Baylee Farren Byrd-Roberts, Hayden Paul Scolpini and Bella Marie Hale; nephews, Jason Merricks and wife, Hope and Justin Merricks; and great-nieces, Alice Merricks and Sarah Merricks.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Java Church of God of Prophecy by Rev. Edward Pope and Rev. David Deisher.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Java Church of God of Prophecy.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Java COGOP Stephen Byrd Memorial Fund in care of Edward Pope, P.O. Box 16, Java, Virginia 24565.

The family would like to give a special thank you to her caregiver and friend, Patsy Womack for her love and care.
