Gretna…..Carl (Goat) Stafford Franklin, age 81 of 702 South Main Street, Gretna died Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at his residence.
Born June 14, 1933 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Exie Clay Franklin. He was predeceased by his wife, Megan Lawrenson Franklin; and two brothers, Reuben Riley and Russell Riley. Mr. Franklin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gretna, a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class and was a former employee of Bethlehem Steel. He was a US Navy Veteran, a member of Anderson Masonic Lodge 258 AF & AM, a former member of the Gretna Town Council; and he enjoyed golfing and gardening.
He is survived by one son, Robbie Franklin of Essex, MD; special cousins, Ned and Barbara Franklin, and their children, Tony Franklin, Terri McPaters and Lisa Curtis; brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Glenda Lawrenson and Raymond and Betty Lawrenson; and a number of nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 21, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Gretna by Rev. Jonathan Hilliard and Rev. Kristen White. Burial with Masonic Rites by Anderson Masonic Lodge 258 AF & AM will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
