Altavista…….Carl Lewis Rice, age 71 of Altavista died Tuesday, December 17, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer.  His faith in God remained solid through to the end.

Born March 12, 1948 in Campbell County, he was a son of the late Thomas "TV" Vanice Rice and Ruth Dudley Rice.  He was predeceased by two brothers, J.T. Rice and William "Winky" Rice; and one sister, Margaret "Margie" Keatts.   He was a member of Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church and a National Guard Veteran.  Carl was a kind and humble man who truly believed in helping others.  He was a blessing to so many people.

He is survived by two brothers, George "Eddie" Rice and wife, Ellen of Gladys and Lloyd "Frankie" Rice of Altavista; two sisters, Pauline R. Mitchell of Altavista, and Jeanette R. Hutcherson and husband, Roy of Long Island; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins that loved him very much.  He is also survived by his extended Church family whom he dearly loved.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2019 at Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church by Rev. Brad Hendrix and Randolph Coffey.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of his brother and sister-in-law, George "Eddie" and Ellen Rice.

The family would like to thank Centra Hospice and the staff at Guggenheimer for their kindness shown to Carl during his illness.
