Obituary

Evington………Calvin D. Dudley, Sr., age 91 of Evington, died Friday, May 24, 2024 at his residence.

Born March 18, 1933 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Willam Wiley Dudley and Annie Pearl Walker Dudley.  He was predeceased by his wife, Peggy Brooks Dudley; two brothers, James Dudley and Kenneth Dudley; and one granddaughter, Maggie Jane Pugh.  Mr. Dudley was a member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church and he retired from Babcock and Wilcox after 38 years of service.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean War.  Mr. Dudley coached many different little league baseball teams in the Altavista and Rustburg area; and he enjoyed football and yardwork.

He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Dudley of Evington and Valerie Eagle and husband, Kenneth of Rustburg; three sons, Calvin "Duke" Dudley, Jr. and wife, Karen of Lynchburg, Tim Dudley and wife, Sandra of Hurt and Donald Miller and wife, Terri of Lynchburg; one sister, Delores Bailess and husband, David of Renan; five grandchildren, Casey Eagle, Jill Sexton and husband, Justin, Emily Collins and husband, Cameron, Jessica Dudley and Rachel Dudley; and three great-grandchildren, Easton Sexton, Elijah Sexton and Freyja Collins.

Graveside memorial services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Altavista Memorial Park by Rev. Jim Critchley. Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232.
