Obituary

Gretna……….Calvin William Barbour, age 82 of 34069 US Highway 29, Gretna died Saturday, December 2, 2017 in Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Anne Haskins Barbour of the residence. He was a man of Christian faith who loved a good story. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and spending time on his farms. He was a retired electrician, a 51 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and former owner and operator of Calvin's Electric.
He was born in the town of Altavista on March 26, 1935 to the late Ada Simpson Barbour and Roosevelt V. Barbour. He was preceded in death by his dearly loved son, Timothy Wesley Barbour on December 26, 2016 and by three sisters, Sadie Collins, Merle Perdue and Arlean Hamlett, and three brothers, H.D. Barbour, Earl Barbour and Adrian Barbour.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kimberley B. Berry and husband, Dixon of Hurt; one son, Duane C. Barbour and wife, Betty of Chatham; one brother, Bobby Barbour of Troy, Illinois; one granddaughter, Chasity N. Barbour (Shawn) of Roanoke; one grandson, Timothy W. Barbour, Jr. of Chatham; and three great-grandchildren, Skylour Stultz, Kaidence Stores and Jaden Barbour.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at New Bethel Church of the Brethren, Chatham by Pastor Sam Light and Rev. Jason Andrews. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, December 4, 2017 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
The family would like to thank the following doctors for their gracious care during Calvin's long illness, Dr. James Danner, Dr. Carol Moore, Dr. Alan Kauppi, Dr. Finney Green and Dr. Nicole Scanion-Rowlett.
