Hurt…..Burma Bailess Bennett, age 88 of Hurt, died Monday, September 24, 2012 at the Gretna Health & Rehab Center.
Born October 4, 1923 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late James T. Bailess and Maude Dove Bailess. Mrs. Bennett was predeceased by her husband, Guy Ammon Bennett; five brothers, Lacy Bailess, John Bailess, Leonard Bailess, Billy Bailess and Hester Bailess; four sisters, Helen Merricks, Elizabeth Bennett, Marie Bailess and Lorene Mayhew. She was a member of Monte Vista Baptist Church; and a former employee of Piedmont Manufacturing and Leggetts Department Store in Altavista. She enjoyed flower gardening.
The last immediate survivor of her family she is survived by nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Monte Vista Baptist Church by Rev. Latta B. Terry and Rev. Darrell J. White. Burial will follow in Altavista Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
