Chatham……….Billy Ray Norkett, age 72, of Chatham died Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at his residence.

Born May 2, 1946 in Charlotte, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Ray Raymond Norkett and Tallie Geneva Lovingood Norkett. He was predeceased by one brother, James Raymond Norkett; two sisters, Barbara Cook and Katherine Barnette; and one granddaughter, Eva Faith Hall. Mr. Norkett was a former truck driver and loved playing blue grass and gospel music. He also enjoyed golf, anything outdoors and his dogs.

He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Edith Brown Norkett of the residence; one daughter, Wanda Lynn Norkett of Kannapolis, NC; one son, Ricky Lee Norkett of Hamptonville, NC; three sisters, Jean Young of Statesville, NC, Linda Hepler of Troutman, NC and Phyllis Rabon of Union Grove, NC; and four grandchildren, Branddon Norkett, Jessica Norkett, Carlee Hall Hayes and Morgan Hall.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2019, at Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden by Ronnie Simpson.
