Gretna…..William "Billy" Averette Hodges, age 86 of Gretna died Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.
Born August 2, 1929 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Robert A. Hodges and Prucilla Jones Hodges. Mr. Hodges was predeceased by a brother, Joe Hodges; and three sisters, Minnie Rowland, Lillian Terry and Lucy Davis. Billy was a member at Greenfield Baptist Church, worked for Dan River Mills for 22 ½ years and Hodges and Johnson Painting and Remodeling. He also enjoyed yardwork, building, eating out and meeting with people.
He is survived by one daughter, Susan Gammon and her husband, Larry of Gretna; one grandson, Michael Averette Gammon and his wife, Paula of Williamsburg, KY; devoted special friend for over 50 years, Jeannette Keatts of Gretna; and three great-grandchildren, Olivia Gammon, Myra Gammon and Jude Gammon.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Greenfield Baptist Church by Rev. R.G. Rowland. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Larry Gammon, 2125 Boxwood Road, Gretna, VA 24557.
