Gretna……Betty Jean Vasser, age 71 of Gretna died Friday, May 19, 2023 at her residence.

Born September 30, 1951 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of  Annie Bell Hedrick Vasser of Gretna and the late Felix Thornton Vasser, Sr.  She was predeceased by a son, Joey Bennett; and a brother-in-law, Mike Shriver. Betty was a member of Summersett Baptist Church.  She worked at Klopman Mills before becoming a  rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service.  She enjoyed working in the yard with her flowers and going to her mama's and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Penny Haskins of Gretna and Amanda "Mandy" Shelton of Gretna; one brother, Tony Vasser and wife, Angie of Gretna; five sisters, Margaret Vasser of Gretna, Peggy V. Blair and husband, Bobby of Gretna, Frances V. Knox and husband, Jim of Gretna, Katherine V. Shriver of Gretna and Darnell V. Robertson and husband, Jeff of Hurt; a special friend, Roy Mayhew of Pittsville; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Jason Andrews.  Burial will follow in Pittsville Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
