Obituary

Chatham…….Betty Mae Gibson, age 84 of Chatham died Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born July 3, 1933 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Claude B. Adkins and Virgie Adkins.  Mrs. Gibson was predeceased by four brothers, Calvin Adkins, Reid Adkins, James Adkins, and Robert "Bob" Adkins; and four sisters, Iris Adkins, Judy Lane Adkins, Lorene Adkins and Kathleen Huggins.  She was a graduate of Callands High School and attended Oak Ridge Christian Church. Mrs. Gibson was a home maker; and enjoyed hunting wild flowers, dolls and going on trips to Pigeon Forge.

She is survived by her husband, Charlie "Shorty" Elbert Gibson, Sr.; one son, Robert Thomas "R.T." Hastings III and wife, Joan; one daughter, Kathy Taylor and husband, Ricky; two step-children, C.E. Gibson, Jr. and wife, Lydia and Pat Gibson; two sisters, Geneva Hodges and Barbara Jo Mills; a sister-in-law, Polly Adkins; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2018 at Oak Ridge Christian Church Cemetery by Rev. Curtis English.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2018 at Oak Ridge Christian Church and other times will be at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Ricky Taylor, 1355 Buck Track Road, Gretna.
