Bessie Harmon Pollok, age 90 of Altavista died Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

Mrs. Pollok was a daughter of the late Frank Lee Harmon and Virginia Burnette Harmon of Altavista VA.  She was the widow to the late Thomas Lanier Pollok of Gladys, VA.  She was also predeceased by one sister, the late Doris Harmon Moorefield of Scottsburg, VA.

Mrs. Pollok was a member of Wesleybury United Methodist Church of Gladys, VA, and she was a retired Postmaster of Gladys, VA – U.S. Postal Service.

She is survived by one son, Robert Copland Smith and daughter-in-law, Sheia Smith of Newton, NC; two grandchildren, Brandy Church and husband, Jeffrey Church of Stanley, NC, and Zachary T. Smith of Newton, NC; two great-grandchildren, Geoffrey Church, and Henry Church; one sister, Myrtle Harmon Schrader of Cullowhee, NC; one brother-in-law, William Hughes Pollok; and one sister-in-law, Martha Pollok Morris.

Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 23, 2023 at Wesleybury United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3071 Theta Mill Road, Gladys, VA 24554 by Pastor Bill Smith, and Rev. Pat Watkins.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Gladys Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 85, Gladys, VA 24554 or to Wesleybury United Methodist Church.
