Altavista…….Berta Walker Pugh, age 100 of Altavista died Monday, July 9, 2018 at Autumn Care Nursing and Rehab in Altavista.

Born April 1, 1918 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late John Thomas Walker and Ella Scruggs Walker.  She was also predeceased by her former husband, James Carlton Pugh; three brothers, Tom Walker, J.T. Walker and Elton Walker; three sisters, Pearl Dudley, Jetty Walker and Adell Shelton; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Pugh.  Mrs. Pugh was a beautician.  She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, spending time with her cats and dogs and going to flea markets and yard sales.

She is survived by one son, Grady Pugh of Gretna; one sister, Sylvia Owen of Cincinnati, OH; two granddaughters, Jody Pugh and Jenny Thomas and husband, Scottie; five great-grandchildren, Malorie Taylor and husband, Tyler, Nathan Rowland, Bryson Pugh, Stephen Hart and Jared Thomas; and one great-great-grandchild, Braelynn Taylor.

Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Altavista Memorial Park by Alfred Lester and Wayne Wheeler.

The family will receive friends at the residence of her granddaughter and her grandson-in-law, Jenny and Scottie Thomas, 5157 Telegraph Road, Gretna.
