Gretna......Ben (Pete) Johnson Wyatt, Sr., age 86 of Gretna died Friday, November 26, 2010 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.
Born January 1, 1924 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Andrew Jackson Wyatt and Ethel Hankins Wyatt. He was predeceased by a son, Ben J. Wyatt, Jr.; four brothers, Walter Wyatt, Jack Wyatt, Jerry Wyatt, and Roy Wyatt; and four sisters, Ginger Wyatt, Louise Patterson, Betty Jean Wyatt, and Rachel Wyatt. He was farmer and employed by Warren's Tobacco Warehouse in Danville. He was a member of Polk Lodge #61 A.F. & A.M., and enjoyed hunting, and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Rudd Wyatt of Gretna; a son, Andy Wyatt of Gretna; a daughter, Patricia Scruggs and her husband, Steve of Gretna; a step-son, Elton Crotts of Fairfax; a daughter-in-law, Robbin Wyatt of Long Island; two brothers, Mack Wyatt of Staunton, and Billy Wyatt of Gretna; one sister, Eleanor Shotwell of Gretna; two grandchildren, Robbie Scruggs, and Shannon Chapman; three step-grandchildren, David Crotts, Ashley Crotts, and Mary Angela Gill; seven great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden by Rev. Neville Shelton.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times will be at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Steve Scruggs, 202 Power Street, Gretna.
The family would like to extend their thanks to all the care givers for the love and compassion that was shown to Pete.
