Gretna………Barbara Gatewood Rowles, age 82 of Gretna died Wednesday, April 21, 2021.

Born November 14, 1938 in Danville, she was a daughter of the late White Issac Gatewood and Gladys Inez Boaze Gatewood.  She was predeceased by her husband, Claude Clifton "C.C." Rowles; and an aunt and uncle, Vernon and Rebecca Boaze.  Mrs. Rowles was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gretna and she was a teacher aide with the Pittsylvania County School System for 34 years.  She enjoyed being with her family and friends, reading, crafts, and sports, especially UNC basketball.

She is survived by two sons, Terry Rowles and wife, Kim of Virginia Beach, and Keith Rowles and wife, Julia of Williamsburg; one daughter, Debra Nelson and husband, Stacy of Ringgold; one sister, Patsy Hayden and husband, Walton of Richmond; four grandchildren, Joshua Rowles, Ryan Rowles, Taylor Redmond, and Kaylee Nelson; and four step-grandchildren, Jessica, Stephanie, Zack, and Jack.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Chatham Burial Park by Rev. Bob Ballance.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the residence, 24100 U.S. Highway 29, Gretna.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Gretna Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 14, Gretna, VA 24557 or to the First Baptist Church of Gretna, P.O. Box 339, Gretna, VA 24557.
