Gretna…….Arthur Bailey Thompson, age 84 of Gretna passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at Centra Specialty Hospital in Lynchburg.

Born June 3, 1942 in Halifax County, he was a son of the late Dorcey Witt Thompson and Alma Faye Clay Thompson. He was predeceased by his wife, Gail Mayhew Thompson; two brothers, Owen Thompson and Wayne Thompson; and three sisters, Shirley Tucker, Fleecy Davis & Faye Rowland. Bailey retired from the Lane Company and spent his years after retirement woodworking until his health declined. He also enjoyed hunting and catfishing with his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by two nieces, Jessie Robertson and Gretchen Roberston; three nephews, Dereck Robertson, Edward Robertson and Kimball Rowland and wife, Patricia; sister-in-law, Brenda Robertson and husband, Raymond; brother-in-law, Roy Mayhew; and special cousin, Walter Osborne and wife, Donna.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden by Rev. Ricky Hogan.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
