Penhook……….Birchie Clyde Rigney, Sr., age 94 of 761 Smith Mountain Road, Penhook died Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home in Danville.
Born March 5, 1918 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Henry Birchie Rigney and Fannie Hedrick Rigney. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances Elizabeth Reynolds Rigney; a son Norman Wayne Rigney; a brother, Raleigh Rigney; and six sisters, Louise Jacobs, Nannie Rigney, Estelle Mattox, Mary Rowland, Helen Dodson and Edith Cocke; two grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Mr. Rigney was an Elder and member of Liberty Christian Church. He was a lifetime farmer and enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by three sons, B. Clyde Rigney, Jr. and his wife, Cecilia of Winfield, TX, Ronald J. Rigney and his wife, Leara of Danville, and Philip A. Rigney and his wife, Carol of Uvalde, TX; two daughters, Joyce Shipp and her husband, Jim of Mechanicsville, and Judy Dowdy and her husband, Lew of Stephens City; two sisters, Alice Turnbull of Farmville, and Virginia Mattox of Gretna; 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 6 great- great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Liberty Christian Church by Wayne Grinnell, Minister and the Rev. Dr. Paul Stone. Burial will follow in Liberty Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2012 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times will be at the residence.
