Aubrey W. Henry, Jr., 88, of Gretna, VA, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, October 29, 2021, at Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg, VA.

Mr. Henry was born in Vernon Hill, VA, on October 26, 1933, a son of the late Aubrey W. Henry, Sr. and Lucye E. Henry. He graduated from Spring Garden High School and worked most of his life as manager of Galveston Mills in Gretna, VA, until it closed. He then went to work and retired from American General Life Insurance Co. Mr. Henry was a hard-working man and retirement was not to be for long. He continued in the workforce with Compton & Nichols Plumbing, Inc. until their closure in December of 2020. He served his community on various committees such as The Neighborhood Watch Program, Crime Stoppers, Gretna Town Council and as Mayor of Gretna. He was a longstanding member of First Baptist Church, Gretna. He loved his family and enjoyed growing a vast vegetable garden and sharing it with his friends and family until he was no longer physically able. He is remembered as a family man who worked and provided for his family.

He was married to the late Mamie H. Henry for 44 years. He later married Ileen K. Henry in 2007. He was predeceased by one sister, Bettye Lou Cooper.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters; Kelly Henry, Jane Nichols (Junior), and Ruth McGregor; two step-children, Ricky Kennedy (Carol) and Rhonda Keatts (Kenny); three grandchildren, Stacey Dunlevy, Stuart McNichols, and Carson Nichols, three step-grandchildren; Monica Gibson, Hannah Keatts, and Gabrielle Keatts, two great-grandchildren; McKenna Dunlevy and Mollie Dunlevy, and one step great-grandchild Kennedy Gibson; one sister, Carrol Hall and one brother, Dale Henry.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 1, 2021 at Gretna Burial Park by Rev. Bob Ballance.  For safety reasons, the family requests that only immediate family attend the service.

The family would like to thank Gretna Health and Rehabilitation Center for their care and compassion while caring for Mr. Henry this past year.
