Gretna……Aubrey W. Dalton, age 91 of 11178 Rockford School Road, Gretna died Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born January 28, 1924 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Charlie Dalton and Myrtle Vasser Dalton. He was predeceased by three sisters, Virginia Helms, Hilda Keatts, Ada Smith; and two brothers, Eldridge Dalton and Sidney Dalton. He retired from Civil Service with the Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head, MD. Mr. Dalton was a World War II Army veteran. He served in the Pacific Theater, was wounded in combat in the South Pacific and received a Purple Heart. He also received the Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge and many other awards and medals. He was proud to serve his country. Aubrey was an avid pool shooter and holds many trophies and awards. He loved working in his yard and making bird and dog houses. He enjoyed his many visitors and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was never a stranger to anyone and helped in any way he could.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Nichols Dalton of the residence; one daughter, Iris R. Keesee of Altavista; one son, Jay Dalton and his wife, Lisa of LaPlata, MD; two grandsons, Michael W. Keesee, Jr. and Austin Dalton; one granddaughter, Madison G. Dalton; a sister-in-law, Paula J. Walden; a special nephew, Wayne Walden, Jr.; and two special nieces, Nancy Wood and Debra Hutcherson.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 24, 2015 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Pastor Eddie McDonald, Pastor Bobby Brumfield and Lee Ashley, Minister. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in Weatherford Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
