In Loving Memory of Aron Gary Hall

There are places that hold our hearts long after we've left them — and for Aron Gary Hall, that place was always Harkers Island, North Carolina. It was there, among the ocean breezes and the wild horses that roamed free, where Gary found peace, purpose, and inspiration. The Lighthouse, standing tall against the ocean, reminded him of strength through life's storms — and the waters around the island offered some of the best fishing, laughter, and fellowship one could ever experience.

Gary's story began long before those days by the shore. Born August 30,1946 in Newport News, VA, Gary's mother cultivated a sense of love and generosity and he gained his strong work ethic from his father.

Before his professional success, Gary proudly served his country in the military as an aerial photographer. He combined bravery with artistry, capturing images from perspectives few ever see. That same visionary eye carried through his life — in business, in relationships, and in design. He later built homes around Smith Mountain Lake and nearby areas, each one a reflection of his creativity, craftsmanship, and care.

In the 1970s, he founded ACC Incorporated, in Danville, Virginia, a company that became a cornerstone in the Death Care Industry over the years.  Through ACC, Gary contracted for cemetery management, sales, and operations, and went on to purchase and sell cemeteries and funeral homes across the Southeast. He often traveled what he liked to refer to as the "friendly skies," logging countless miles between Virginia and Florida, forming relationships and opportunities wherever he went.

Gary left a lasting mark on his profession — not just through his accomplishments, but through people. He hired, trained, and mentored many who would go on to become some of the most impactful leaders in the industry today. He had a rare ability to see potential in others before they saw it themselves, and he challenged them to grow into it.  Developing people wasn't just part of his job — it was his passion.

And then, there was the cabin.

In 1987, standing before the remains of an old fire-damaged cabin, Gary saw not destruction but promise. With heart and hard work, he rebuilt it into a place of warmth, laughter, and connection. Over the years, it became known among family, friends and colleagues as "where all roads lead to the cabin."

Two or three times a year, Gary would gather close friends and business associates for fishing and hunting trips, family for special occasions and holidays— times filled with good food, deep laughter, and stories that lasted well into the night. He was the best host anyone could imagine.

And then there was Julie — the love of his life.

She was the one who slowed life down and captured Gary's full attention and focus. Julie became his steady companion, his peace, and his home. She was, in every sense, the anchor that holds. Fostering relationships with family and friends into one large and loving community.

He was son of the late Aaron Ardell Hall and Tempie Jewell Flora Hall. He was also preceded in death by brother Phillip Ardell Hall; half-sisters Brenda Hall Pendergraft and Carolyn Hall Sault.

Surviving Gary is his beloved wife, Julie, of 33 years; children Laura Gwyn Hall, Nathan Seth Hall, Errin Marie Hall; sister Kristie Tempie Hall DeVaney (Wes); grandchildren Parris Tempie Brown, Sierra Jewel Lanier, Rya Marie Hall, Lara Alexis Hall; along with his cherished nephews and cousins, each one a part of the proud and enduring legacy he leaves behind.

Gary Hall lived a life rich in purpose and love — as a veteran, a visionary businessman, a mentor, a builder, a loyal friend, a loving father and a devoted partner. He found joy in simple moments, strength in storms, and meaning in the people and places he held dear. To know Gary was to know a man of loyalty, vision, and generosity. He cherished his lifelong friendships — many of which grew into bonds so close they became family.

Aron Gary Hall, age 79 of Penhook went home to be with his Savior on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. And though his ship has now sailed on to calmer seas, his legacy — like his love — will forever endure.

Service Details

Graveside services with military honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2025 at Highland Burial Park by Pastor Ronnie Hall.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2025 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to God's Pit Crew, 2499 North Main Street, Danville, Virginia 24540.
