Long Island……….Annie Lucille Burks King, age 92 of Long Island went to be with her Heavenly Father Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born August 26, 1918 in Pittsylvania County, daughter of the late Charles William Burks and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Doss Burks. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years Willie Lee King. She was also predeceased by four brothers, Charlie E. Burks, Price Brooks; infants Floyd Burks, and Oscar Burks; two sisters, Pearl B. Tucker, and Lillie B. Berger; two grandsons, Daniel King, and infant Richard Childress; a great-grandson infant, Johnny W. Ferguson, Jr.; and a son-in-law, Garnell Taylor. Mrs. King was a home maker, and loved her garden and flowers. She was a member of Cody Church of God of Prophecy for 70 years. Mrs. King was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and sister.
She is survived by two sons, Lawson F. King and friend Viola Dunkley of Long Island, and Herbert A. King and his wife Delores of Rustburg, four daughters, Catherine K. Cullop, and Ruby K. Childress both of Long Island, Betty K. Miller of Hurt, and Rosa K. Taylor of Gretna; two sisters, Ada B. Boley of Lynch Station, and Angel B. O'Connor of Lynchburg; a sister-in-law, Annie Mae King of Nathalie; 18 grandchildren, six of them they raised, Leroy King of Lynch Station, Ronald Ferguson of Gretna, Nelson Ferguson of Long Island, and Johnny W. Ferguson, Betty Mattox, and Debra Hamlett of Altavista; 33 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives and friends. She was loved very much and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 20, 2011 at Cody Church of God of Prophecy by Rev. Lacy King, and Rev. Charlie Haley, Jr. Burial will follow in the King family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of her daughter, Rosa K. Taylor, 15012 East Gretna Road, Gretna.
