Hurt……… Andrew Jackson Oakes, Sr., age 101 of Hurt died Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at his residence.

Born December 1, 1921 in Pittsylvania County. He was predeceased by the love of his life of 67 years, Corrine Hendricks Oakes; an infant son; and two brothers, Burton Oakes and Charlie Keatts. Mr. Oakes a member of Spring Road Baptist Church, a United States Army Veteran and was a farmer most of his life; he loved the land. If he was tilling land, bush hogging or riding a lawn mower, he was a happy soul.

He is survived by two sons, Clarence Oakes and wife, Betty of Hurt and Junior Oakes and wife, Jacque of Hurt; two daughters, Joyce Oakes of Hurt and Betty Sue Oakes of Hurt; two grandchildren, Edward Oakes of Forest and Andy Oakes and wife, Susan of Hurt; step grandson, Kolton Nelson of Hurt; great-grandson, Joshua Andrew Oakes of Hurt; special sister-in-law, Lois Keatts and family of Penhook; and a special niece, Tina Stine and family of Maryland.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the Oakes Family Cemetery by Pastor Ronnie Simpson.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his son and daughter-in-law, Clarence and Betty Oakes, 1840 Spring Rd. Hurt, Virginia.
