Gretna…..Amos George Walker Sr., age 87 of Gretna died Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.
Born October 2, 1926 in Bedford County, he was a son of the late Elonza Robert Walker and California Crouch Walker. He was predeceased by his wife, Lula Compton Walker; three brothers, Issac Walker, Gilford Walker, and Allen Walker; and three sisters, Louise Walker, Pauline Arthur and Beulah Irby. Mr. Walker was a member of the Elim Assembly of God in Altavista and was a retired cleaner for BGF Industries. He loved to play Dominos, Rook, fish, and pitch horse shoes.
He is survived by a son, Amos George Walker, Jr. of Altavista; one daughter, Mary Walker Short of Gretna; one brother, James Edward Walker and wife, Christine of Altavista; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Barbour of Rustburg and Jessica Ward and husband, Kenny of Gladstone; 4 great-grandchildren; and two very special friends, Mike and Phyllis Williams.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 6, 2013 at Elim Assembly of God in Altavista by Rev. David W. Rowland. Burial will follow in the Union Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 P.M. Thursday, December 5, 2013 at the Elim Assembly of God in Altavista and other times will be at the residence of Shirley Tibbs, 1530 Pine Grove Court, Altavista.
The family suggests memorials be made to Elim Assembly Building Fund, 1300 4th Street Altavista, VA 24517.
